Our beloved mother, Virginia Collins, went home to her eternal reward on Monday, April 6, 2020. She passed peacefully and without pain, directly into the arms of Jesus and the loving presence of her husband and Son who preceded her into heaven. Though our hearts, and the hearts of her family who remain are broken, we know our dad and brother are now reunited with her. Virginia ("Muz", to many of us), was born January 26, 1925, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She was 95 years old at her passing. Tragically, her last couple years were largely stolen from her by the cruel disease of Alzheimer's. Yet even in those years she could still emerge with a smile or a joke and light up a room. She grew up during the Great Depression and became a part of the Greatest Generation. Like so many young ladies of that time she went to work for the government during World War II. She met her future husband, our dad, in Washington, D.C. in 1944. They met on a blind date, knew each other for only a few hours before pledging their lives to each other... really. A couple days later our dad went off to Europe to participate in the D-Day landings and would not return until the war's end in 1945. They were married shortly after his return. He passed in 1974...she never re-married. We will miss her laughter and her spirit, but mostly we will miss the love she showered on us and all her family. The memories we have of her are entrenched in our hearts, and they will have to suffice until we see her again...which we know we will. She left a legacy of love, which is the greatest thing that anyone can leave their loved ones...and what a legacy she left for her loved ones. Rest in peace, our beloved mother, and may God grant you the eternal joy you so richly deserve. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Virginia and John Wingert, her son and daughter-in-law, Rand and Leslie Collins, her daughter-in-law, Gloria Collins, as well as ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
