After 98 plus years spreading love, generosity, and devotion to her god, family and every person who had the great good fortune to know her, Ruby Katherine Hopkins passed away on May 14th, 2020 at her home.
Along with “loving, caring, and giving” the best words to describer our mom and grandmother was resilient and stubborn. She bounced back after her occasional trips and falls around the house.
After losing her three husbands…she bounced back. After losing two of her grown children… she bounced back. After losing a grandchild…she bounced back. After surviving cancer…she bounced back. An amazing combination of kindness and strength lives on in her example and the memory of her lovely warm smile.
Ruby Katherine Hopkins was born on August 15th,1921 in Tarboro, North Carolina to her parents Effie Lee Norwood and Fred A. Harris. Ruby went on to get married three times and had five beautiful children. She loved to sew and garden. She had a green thumb which she was proud of and would talk for hours with you about her plants. She loved to tell stories about her past with her husbands and her children. She had some really good stories to tell about all of her children that would make everyone laugh. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She also loved to occasionally go out to eat to her favorite restaurant Red Lobster. Even in her last days through the ever-increasing dementia she would still talk about her husbands and her children.
Ruby is survived by her three remaining children Charlie, Kathy and Ronnie, her sixteen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
The viewing and services will be for immediate family members only due to the circumstances. Flowers can be sent to the mortuary Deco Familia 8545 Rosecrans Ave Paramount, CA 90723 for Ruby Hopkins.
