DAMOS GRACIAS POR HABERLA TENIDO ENTRE NOSOTROS; NOS ENSEÑO A AMAR A DIOS Y AL PROJIMO, A TRABAJAR, A SER GENEROSOS ESPECIALMENTE CON QUIENES MAS LO NECESITAN, A SER SENCILLOS Y AUSTEROS, ALEGRES Y A GOZAR DE LA NATURALEZA.

Doña Carmen Alpírez nació en Cazones, Veracruz en 1936, sus padres oriundos de Veracruz; Don Juan Alpírez González y Doña María del Refugio Ibáñez Bache vivieron en el estado de Veracruz donde ella creció. Sus padres vivieron también con ella hasta el final de sus vidas.

Don Juan y Doña María tuvieron una familia de cinco hijos: Raúl, quien vivió la mayor parte de su vida en McAllen, Carmen, Elia y Víctor. La sobrevive su amada hermana Blanca que vive en Poza Rica. Carmen conoció el amor de su vida en Poza Rica Veracruz donde se casaron.

Carmen tuvo tres hijos, que lo fueron todo para ella; Lilia (quien perdió su batalla contra el cáncer a los 45 años), Erick y Mónica. Lilia se casó con Víctor Vivanco de Veracruz y sus hijos Demian y Ariany viven en Reynosa. Erick está casado con Paula y es padre de Lauren y Erick Junior, así como de sus hijas de otro matrimonio, Michelle y Joanna, todos ellos residen en Estados Unidos. Mónica está casada con Alberto Serrano de Puebla y viven en Reynosa. Ellos tuvieron una hija, Ginette que vive también en Reynosa.

A principios de los años sesenta, Carmen y su esposo Juan del Angel se trasladaron de Poza Rica Veracruz a Reynosa, donde consolidaron su familia. En esta época, Carmen tomó cursos de costura y tuvo éxito diseñando ropa durante varios años. Además del negocio de la costura, Carmen preparaba los deliciosos tamales veracruzanos para algunos prestigiados restaurantes de la ciudad, tales como el Sánchez de Reynosa, y también entregaba muchos pedidos de estos en la Colonia Ribereña.

Su preocupación por la realidad social y en particular por la situación económica de su familia la llevó a trasladarse a la Cd. de México donde su hijo estudiaba. Con gran esmero y entereza allí instaló y manejó un restaurante en la esquina de las calles de Pachuca y Montes de Oca en la colonia Condesa a mediados de los años noventa. La energía con la que ella confeccionaba los menús y mantenía su restaurante, le valió para continuar su ascenso en su búsqueda de una mejor vida en Estados Unidos, a donde se trasladó a finales de los años noventa para trabajar y vivir el resto de su vida.

La familia de Carmen continúa creciendo incluyendo ya nietos y biznietos. Su sendero por este mundo ha sido muy fecundo, exitoso y ha dejado un feliz legado humano lleno de amor, honradez y buena voluntad.

Maria del Carmen Alpirez Ibañez 1936—2025

“A wonderful, delicate and easy-going personality with an honest, welcoming smile, willing to chat with you and make you her friend in any circumstance.”

“Her subtle way of her being was her most recognizable character trait; always willing to get to know you whatever the occasion.”

Carmen Alpirez, of Mission TX, died at home of natural causes on March 16, 2025. She was born in Cazones, Veracruz in 1936 to Maria del Refugio Ibañez Bache and Juan Alpirez Gonzalez whom she loved so much that they lived for long periods of their lives with Carmen. She was the second of five children (Raul, Elia, Victor, Blanca). Blanca is now the sole surviving sibling.

Leaving her hometown for Poza Rica, Veracruz in the 1950s, Carmen met Juan del Angel, the love of her life, to whom she was married for 24 years. In the early ‘60s, they moved to Reynosa, the place where they settled and grew their family.

She was a loving mother of three children, they meant the world to her: Lilia (who lost her battle with cancer in 2001), Erick, and Monica. Lilia married Victor Vivanco of Veracruz, and their children Ariany and Demian survive them in Reynosa. Erick is married to Paula from Texas and is father to Lauren and Erick Junior, as well as stepdaughters Michelle and Joanna. They all reside in the US. Monica married Alberto Serrano from Puebla and lives in Reynosa, where daughter Ginette also resides.

Carmen was a spirited woman who worked very hard to provide for her family amid difficult situations. In the Mexican vernacular she was a “luchista”—tenacious and persistent, leading to accomplishment. Carmen was a gifted seamstress, using her skills to earn a livelihood. She was famous for her tamales veracruzanos in “Colonia Ribereña”, the neighborhood where the family lived for many years. Carmen also lived a few years in Mexico City, where she owned and operated a restaurant in the historic La Condesa neighborhood. In the mid-1990s, Carmen moved to the US, where she lived and worked for the rest of her life.

Carmen’s family continues to grow through many great-grandchildren. She was also beloved by many nieces and nephews. Her path through this world has been fruitful and joyful. She leavesus with an unforgettable image of love, honesty and good will.
