Josefina Valdivia Bustamante

September 4, 1927 — August 12, 2020

Josefina (Valdivia) Bustamante was born on September 4, 1927 in Magdalena de Kino Sonora, Mexico to
Mariano Valdivia and Francisca (Quihuis) Valdivia. Josefina had had 5 older siblings and one younger
brother. In 1946 Josefina met the man who would later become her husband and lifelong partner,
Modesto V. Bustamante. Modesto and Josefina began a 9-year courtship, 7 years of those were long
distance. After many letters back and forth and promising one another their love, they married on April
10, 1955. One year later they welcomed their first and only son Francisco (Frank) Sergio Bustamante
and the following year their first daughter Blanca Teresita (Terry) Bustamante (Santiago). In January
1958 Modesto and Josefina immigrated with their 2 small children to Los Angeles, CA where the
following year they welcomed their third child a daughter Rosa Maria (Rosie) Bustamante (Aleman).
Modesto and Josefina raised their children in Montebello and surrounding areas. In 1979 they moved to
their last home in Montebello where they saw their children grow into adulthood and welcomed
numerous grandchildren. On April 5, 2003 Josefina lost the love of her life after nearly 48 years of
marriage. Two years later Josefina was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s/Dementia an illness that would
slowly claim her life. In 2009 Josefina went to live with her daughter Terry in Fontana. There she was
carried for by her daughter and granddaughter until January 2019 when the doctors determined she
needed more specialized care and was placed in a nursing home, Country Villa, Claremont. Family and
friends visited Josefina often and she always looked forward to her Sunday visit from her daughter until
March of 2020 when she was no longer able to receive visits due to Covid. Josefina spent the last year
of her life in the home where she was cared for by the nurses and aides whom she tended to make
laugh by always telling them she had never married nor had children because she was still a señorita.
On Wednesday, August 12, 2020 at 12:55pm Josefina closed her eyes her on earth for the last time only
to open them and be in the presence of Jesus her Savior. Today she is in Heaven with her husband and
youngest grandchild Kalani whom was the only family member she remembered even when she no
longer remembered the rest of her family. Josefina is survived by her 3 children and numerous
grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

We love you Nana y nunca te olvidaremos.
