Herlinda Alba

Herlinda Alba Macias was one of fifteen children born to Epifanio Alba and Felipa Macias on March 23, 1928 in Jalisco, En La Hacienda de San Cristóbal.

On May 14, 2020, at the age of 92 our loving mother of nine children, grandmother of twenty-six grandchildren, and great-grandmother of forty eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, passed peacefully surrounded by her loving family members.

She shared a very special bond with her sister, Anita. At the young age of 14 she moved to Tijuana to be with her sister, which is where she met her husband, Angel, and together they shared nine beautiful children.

Her most remarkable qualities were her patience, humility and gratitude. She was a meticulous seamstress and impeccable crochetier. Nobody could measure up to her skills with a sewing machine or hook. She took pride in completing homemade blankets, booties and scarves with fine detail for her loved ones.

The most important thing to her was family, which she gladly embraced as it multiplied. She never saw anyone’s imperfections. If someone’s flaws were brought to her attention she would reply, “Ay a mi me gusta”(oh, I like it) or “Se ve tan bonita”(she looks so beautiful). In her eyes everyone was perfect.

She delighted in eating desserts every opportunity she had. She never turned down a pan dulce or slice of cake, but what truly held her heart was loving on all her grandbabies. Children brought her pure joy and she adored looking after them.

She didn’t care for material possessions and giving to others was second nature to her. She found joy in always putting the needs of others before hers. She was known for her hospitality and amazing food. She demonstrated her love by preparing intricate delicious authentic Mexican meals for all of her guests. Her selflessness and service for others will leave a legacy our family will keep in our hearts and will try to model for generations to come.
