Elma Sanchez Garcia was born on June 7, 1973, and passed away at age 48 on November 3, 2021. As an infant she was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. Fortunately, Elma was born to our mother, Guadalupe Garcia, who was loving and tenacious in keeping her daughter healthy and safe. The two were inseparable for 47 years, until our mother died last November 18. When Elma was age one, our mother was told that her baby would not live to age 30 because her kidneys would fail. Elma’s kidneys did indeed begin to fail at age 30 and she then underwent dialysis. But thanks to our brother Sergio, who donated a kidney to Elma, she lived another 15 years without the need for dialysis, until early this year. She will be remembered for her loving devotion to her family -- she lived for her nieces and nephews. Elma at times could be reserved, silently masking her chronic discomfort so as not to worry others. But Elma, I believe, would not for a second want to be remembered for the way she valiantly dealt with
adversity. She would want to be remembered for making the world a better place for others, through countless acts of kindness and love.
